Local rental discovery / 2026 — ongoing

Rent Siliguri

Making rental discovery simpler without turning owners into public contact listings.

Rent Siliguri is a hyperlocal rental platform designed around a familiar local problem: renters want an easier way to discover homes and reach owners, while property owners don't necessarily want their phone numbers circulating publicly. Kode Pundit designed and built the product around that tension — combining local property discovery, privacy-conscious owner contact, visit coordination and operational tools into one connected experience.

01

Context

Finding a rental in Siliguri still depends heavily on brokers, personal networks and WhatsApp groups.

That can work, but the experience is fragmented. Properties shared in groups can become outdated, renters often have little context before making contact, and owners can end up receiving calls long after a property is no longer available.

Rent Siliguri was created to explore a more structured alternative: one place where renters can discover local properties while giving owners more control over how and when they are contacted.

The goal wasn't simply to put rental listings on another website.

It was to design a rental experience specifically around how the local market actually behaves.

02

Challenge

On the surface, the problem looked straightforward:

Make it easier to find rentals in Siliguri.

But there was a conflict underneath it.

Renters naturally want direct access to property owners. Owners, however, may not want their personal number permanently displayed on a public website.

Solving the renter side by publishing every owner's contact details would simply create a new problem for owners.

There was another challenge: rental information becomes stale quickly. A useful platform therefore needs to communicate not just what properties exist, but also how current and trustworthy that information is.

That meant Rent Siliguri couldn't simply copy the structure of a conventional property portal.

The experience needed to balance discovery, accessibility, privacy and trust from the beginning.

03

Approach

We treated Rent Siliguri as a local discovery product rather than a generic classifieds website.

Renters should be able to start with the information that actually matters to them — locality, budget, property type and requirements — and progressively narrow their options.

At the same time, owner privacy needed to be part of the product itself rather than something handled through warnings or fine print.

That led to an important product decision:

Make properties discoverable without making owners publicly discoverable.

We also separated two concepts that property platforms often combine: whether a listing can be published and how strongly it has been verified.

This allows the marketplace to remain open while still giving renters clearer signals about freshness and trust.

Rental Discovery Experience

Start with the neighbourhood

Rental searches are inherently local.

Instead of making users work through a generic catalogue, Rent Siliguri provides dedicated discovery around Siliguri localities alongside broader property searches.

Renters can explore properties by locality, budget, BHK, property type, furnishing, availability and other relevant preferences.

A map-based experience provides another way to understand where properties are located without exposing unnecessarily precise location information.

Why it matters

Someone searching for a home isn't simply searching for "a 2BHK."

They're usually searching for a 2BHK in a particular part of the city, within a particular budget, with particular requirements.

The experience was designed around that reality.

Useful information before making contact

Property pages bring the important information together before asking a renter to start a conversation.

Photos, rent, deposit, amenities, availability information and approximate location help renters decide whether a property is worth pursuing.

From there, they can take one of two clear next steps:

Request the owner's number

or

Schedule a visit

This turns the property page into more than an advertisement. It becomes the beginning of a structured introduction between renter and owner.

Direct contact without publishing personal numbers

This became one of the defining product decisions.

Owner phone numbers aren't simply displayed on public property pages.

Instead, Rent Siliguri manages the introduction between the renter and owner.

When an eligible renter requests contact, the platform handles that request while respecting the owner's consent and keeping a record of the interaction.

Why it matters

Owners can make their property discoverable without making their personal phone number permanently discoverable.

Renters still have a route toward direct communication.

The product sits between those two needs without trying to become the broker itself.

Visits coordinated through WhatsApp

Asking property owners to install another app or regularly check another dashboard would introduce unnecessary friction.

So visit coordination is designed around something owners already use: WhatsApp.

When a renter requests a visit, the owner can respond to the request through a simple WhatsApp interaction — including confirming, rescheduling, declining or indicating that the property is already taken.

The renter can then receive the corresponding outcome.

When appropriate, contact information can be exchanged as part of that process.

Why it matters

The software adapts to an existing behaviour instead of requiring people to learn an entirely new one.

05

Beyond the Interface

Rent Siliguri isn't only the public-facing rental website.

Behind the renter experience is a system for managing listings, owner consent, enquiries, listing status, verification, property freshness and visit activity.

That operational layer matters because rental marketplaces change constantly.

Properties become occupied. Owners return with another vacancy. Listings need refreshing. Enquiries need context. Information that was accurate several weeks ago may no longer be useful today.

Instead of treating these as separate manual processes, the product was designed so the public experience and the operational workflow can work together.

That gives Rent Siliguri room to grow beyond a collection of property pages into a more structured local rental service.

06

Details That Mattered

Privacy by design

Owner contact information is kept away from the public browsing experience rather than relying on owners to deal with unwanted calls afterward.

Honest trust signals

Publishing and verification are treated separately, allowing the platform to communicate the status of a listing without presenting every published property as equally verified.

Locality-first discovery

The experience includes dedicated coverage across 47 mapped Siliguri localities, making neighbourhood discovery a core part of the product rather than an afterthought.

Approximate map locations

Map discovery helps renters understand the area while avoiding unnecessarily precise public property positioning.

Familiar communication

WhatsApp is incorporated into important contact and visit workflows so owners don't need another application simply to respond to renters.

Built for measurement

Search activity, contact requests and key renter actions are structured so the product can measure what people actually use as inventory and adoption grow.

07

Result

Rent Siliguri has moved from an idea about improving local rental discovery to a working, publicly available product.

Before

Rental discovery was spread across brokers, conversations, groups and individual contacts.

There was no Rent Siliguri product connecting property discovery, owner privacy, contact requests, visit coordination and listing management.

After

There is now one purpose-built system where renters can search across localities, evaluate properties, request contact and coordinate visits while owners can participate without placing their personal number directly on public listing pages.

The platform is currently in its inventory-seeding stage, so it would be premature to claim marketplace adoption or renter outcomes.

The next proof point isn't another feature.

It's usage: building useful inventory, bringing renters into the marketplace and measuring whether the experience improves how people actually find homes in Siliguri.

Takeaway

Rent Siliguri demonstrates the kind of problem Kode Pundit is interested in solving.

The visible request might be "build a property website."

But the more important work happens underneath: understanding why renters struggle, why owners hesitate to participate, where conventional software creates friction, and which parts of the experience need to work differently.

The result is software shaped around the business and its users rather than forcing the business into an off-the-shelf workflow.
